The Alzheimer Café Donnybrook
The Alzheimer Café is a safe, relaxed place where people with dementia, their families and friends, and health and social care professionals come together for a unique blend of education and support. It is a forum where people can share experiences and talk about dementia.
Anyone who is affected by dementia is welcome to come to the Alzheimer Cafe Evening. It takes place once a month and is free-of-charge.
The Alzheimer Café Evening includes time for socialising and general discussion. There is an invited speaker each month. The topic is on some aspect of life with dementia. Examples include how memory works, how to access services, living well with dementia, coping with grief and loss, creating dementia-friendly environments.
Sonas apc led the establishment of the Alzheimer Café Donnybrook, the first in Ireland. It is one of several organisations that supports it. The Alzheimer Café is entirely run by volunteers.
The Alzheimer Café Donnybrook takes place on the second Thursday of every month, in the Avila Centre, Donnybrook. There are now Alzheimer Cafes elsewhere in Ireland.
